Frequently Asked Questions
In our continuing effort to provide optimal customer care, we have provided common roofing frequently asked questions
with the appropriate answer below. If you do not see an answer to a question that you may have, please call 713-748-4000
and a representative will be happy to provide you with more information.
How long has the contractor been in business?
It should be in business for at least 3 years, but experience grows with time (Paramount Roofing, Inc. has been in business for over
7 years with a combined 26 year of roofing experience).
Does the contractor meet local legal requirements for licensing and insurance?
Numerous cities and towns require registration, and a good company should have liability insurance (Paramount Roofing, Inc. does).
Who does your work, do you use subcontractors?
It is usually better to have a company with its own employees because the control and quality is better (Paramount Roofing, Inc. does this).
Are your employees covered under workman's compensation insurance?
This is very important and should be in writing on your contract. This is to protect you if a worker gets hurt on the job (Paramount Roofing, Inc. does this).
What kind of labor warranty do you give and how long is it?
Most labor warranties should be at least three years and it is only as good as the company that gives it. Ones that have been in business for an extended period of time are your best bet. Paramount Roofing, Inc. gives a seven year warranty.
Is it O.K. to cover over old shingles?
It is much easier and faster to cover over old shingles, but Paramount Roofing, Inc. does not. This is because most of the time the flashing, the pipe boots, and the vallies do not get the attention they need. Bad or wet wood stays hidden to make a nice home for ants and termites. Covering old shingles does not stop them from deteriorating or decaying. We feel it is best not to cover old shingles.
How do your employees get paid?
We have secured certified permanent roofing crews. Most roofers get paid by the hour, how many shingles, or how much siding they do a day. But we found at Paramount Roofing, Inc. paying by the square generates the highest quality of work and less chance of problems down the road. Remember you get what you pay for.
What associations are you members with?
Paramount Roofing, Inc. is a member of the Roofing Contractors Association of Texas, the governing body of
professional roofers in the state of Texas that have put forth the
guidelines for roofers to abide by. Paramount is also a member of the Houston Apartment Association. (HAA)
How do you know you are dealing with a good company?
We feel that you need to check for workman's compensation, with the Better Business Bureau, and the company's place of business to see if they have a building, office, trucks, and equipment to take care of your job as well as it should be. Paramount Roofing, Inc. has just manned a new office and warehouse on Sheffield Blvd. Paramount Roofing, Inc. strives to be a service-oriented company, to serve our customers.
What do you do with old shingles taken off of my house?
It is important that the contractor cleans everything up and hauls everything away. Some companies have big dumpsters dropped off in their customers yards or driveways. This can be a problem with blocking the driveway for sometimes over a week before it is picked up. Sometimes they leave big marks on the driveway. Paramount Roofing, Inc. uses their own trailers and dump truck to haul the trash away.
How long does a typical job last?
Weather permitting, a typical house in Houston will take about a day to a day and a half.
